Humidity
|
Moisture present in the air can cause failure of components. It can, for example, cause the shorting and mal-function of electrical components and also initiate corrosive effects due to chemical or electro-chemical processes. Fungus growth can occur too.
Humidity testing is most frequently performed at an elevated temperature which tends to quicken these effects and the combination can be effective in finding weaknesses in surfaces or components sealed against moisture ingress. Equipment is sometimes tested with power applied. The test can be combined with altitude testing. Typical specs: BS 2011-2.1Cb:1990, IEC 60068-2-56:1988. |
